Historic stain glass windows of Concordia
The exquisite stained glass windows of Concordia Lutheran Church only cost $600 in 1918. Andrew Erikson, a Swedish pioneer and one of the church founders, personally visited Los Angeles and San Francisco to find the right art glass windows for the sanctuary. He said the windows were to be of rich design. All of the windows are a tribute to God. They reach high up to heaven.
Represents the Latin inscription which means Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews- the title that Pontius Pilate had written over the head of Jesus Christ on the cross. The crown of thorns represents the passion or suffering of Christ.

This symbolizes the reward in heaven coming after the trials of the life of Jesus and stands for victory over death.

Grapes have many significant meanings in the bible and in Christianity including fruitfulness, gladness, and ripe harvest. Not least of these the symbol of the wine our Lord used at the Last Supper to consecrate into his precious Blood.
The two tablets represent the 10 Commandments of God’s covenant given to Moses by God on Mount Sinai.
The symbol of prosperity and fruitfulness, as well as the bread it will become and the hunger it will satisfy. It also represents the body of Christ given to us in bread for Holy Communion.

Originally a symbol of hope in general, the anchor takes on in this way a much higher meaning: that of hope based on the Cross of Christ. The similarity of the anchor to the cross made the former an admirable Christian symbol
This was made to represent Martin Luther’s (founder of the Lutheran religion) personal theological beliefs. He designed it himself. The center is a black cross indicative of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. The cross is in the center of a red heart to show faith. The heart is on a white flower because it is the color of angels, and the sky-blue background symbolizes Christ’s hope. The gold seal in a ring shows the unending bliss of heaven
After 94 years the windows were removed in early May 2012 for restoration work by the Judson Studios. The Los Angeles-based company, in business since 1897, specializes in stained, faceted and architectural glass. The windows were reinstalled in April 2013. With the restoration, the windows will have a life of at least 80 years.
